AP Podcasting - Kennedy Quick Reviews (AP US History Extra Credit opportunities)
Looking for a little bonus to be added to your marking period grade? If so, time to Podcast for extra credit! For each chapter completed, you can recieve up to 10 extra credit points for the marking period. Keep in mind that they have to be chapters covered during that particular marking period AND that just completing one doesn't guarantee a full 10 points (quality equals more points).
Here are the requirements:
Maximum of 20 total slides (including title slide)
Minimum of 10 seconds per slide
Full presentation should be no less than two minutes, no more than three minutes
Follow the instructions below in order to get the credit you seek.
Complete the slides in Powerpoint (set the page size as 7.5 x 7.5) and save it to a flash drive.
Go to the MacPro lab in the library with your flash drive.
Open the document in Powerpoint and open the "file" menu and click "send to..." and then click "iPhoto..."
Click "send to iPhoto..."
Open GarageBand and create a new project (click on the podcast icon)
Once inside the program, click the "view/hide media browser" button in the bottom right hand corner (if not open already)
Click the "photo" tab.
Click events.
Drag your Powerpoint event into the "Podcast Track" and adjust the timing as needed.
To record your voice, click the male or female voice (depending on your gender) and click the record button (the big red circle at the bottom of the page). To stop recording, press the space bar.
For particulars on how to edit recorded tracks using GarageBand, go to it's iLife web tutorial site or ask Mr. Freccia for assistance.
When you are completely done editing, click the "sharing" menu and click "export Podcast to disk..."
Click "export" and it should save the completed Podcast to the desktop.
Transfer the Podcast to your flash drive and bring it to Mr. Freccia (it will probably be too big to email).
Before you start your own, here is an example of a completed example that Mr. Freccia completed while getting trained on how to build a podcast. You will need Quicktime in order to view the file. To save it to disk, right click on the link and select "save as..."
